معرفی
Silvia Spriano is an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) of Polytechnic University of Turin, where she conducts research on biomaterials and surface engineering. She is also a member of the Interdepartmental Center PolitoBIOMed Lab - Biomedical Engineering Lab and the GLANCE (Glasses, Ceramics and Composites) research group.
Her research focuses on developing advanced biomaterials for medical applications, with particular emphasis on surface modification techniques to improve biocompatibility and functionality. Key areas include:
- Anti-adhesive and antibacterial surface coatings
- Titanium surface functionalization for enhanced osseointegration
- Bioresorbable metal alloys for temporary implants
- Protein adsorption studies on biomaterial surfaces
- Utilization of natural polyphenols from food industry waste for sustainable material development
Dr. Spriano's recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on sustainable approaches to biomaterials development, particularly using natural compounds like tannic acid for surface modification. Her work bridges materials science, biomedical engineering, and environmental sustainability, with applications in orthopedics, dentistry, and regenerative medicine. A significant portion of her research explores the dual functionality of surfaces - providing both antibacterial properties and enhanced tissue integration.
Her scientific achievements have been recognized through:
- National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor (2013)
- Learning to Teach (L2T) certification from Polytechnic University of Turin (2024)
Dr. Spriano actively mentors the next generation of materials scientists, currently supervising six PhD students working on projects related to biomaterials surface engineering. She has served as principal investigator for numerous research projects funded by competitive calls, EU programs, regional initiatives, and industry contracts, resulting in multiple patents related to surface modifications for biomedical applications. Her work with the GLANCE research group and PolitoBIOMed Lab provides a collaborative environment that bridges fundamental materials research with clinical applications.
