Silvia Secchi is a Professor at the University of Iowa, affiliated with the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability and the Public Policy Center. As Director of Undergraduate Studies for Environmental Policy & Planning and Geographical & Sustainability Sciences, she focuses on human-environment interactions, integrated modeling, and policy analysis for agricultural sustainability. Her work addresses climate change adaptation, water quality, floodplain management, and invasive species in the Mississippi River Basin.
- PhD in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University
Her research integrates economic, geographical, and environmental models to tackle complex sustainability challenges. Key grants include USDA NIFA, NSF, and Argonne National Lab funding for projects on conservation tillage, ecosystem services, and climate-water-human systems. She has mentored numerous PhD and Master’s students in interdisciplinary environmental research.
Recent publications highlight agricultural policy critiques, climate-water-carbon dynamics, and transformative land-use strategies. She currently accepts Master’s students for Fall 2025.
