Silvia Dominguez is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities, within the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Her research focuses on global inequalities, particularly in cities and municipalities, addressing poverty, immigration, race, violence, social networks, and spatial dynamics. She has expertise in Liberia, Chile, and Barcelona, with notable works including Getting Ahead: Social Mobility, Immigrants and Social Networks (2011) and co-editing Mixing Methods in Social Networks (2014).
Her current projects include a book on microaggressions with David Embrick, ethnographic research on museums and space, and a study of immigrant women in Recoleta, Chile. She developed a policy for Massachusetts General Hospital addressing gender-based violence in Liberia and serves as an independent forensic evaluator to prevent deportations. Recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau for her ethnographic expertise in low-income populations, she also collaborates with institutions like the Center for International Affairs and World Cultures.
