Silvia BURINI

Silvia BURINI is a Full Professor at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage and the Center for Studies on Russian Art (CSAR). Her academic focus lies in the History of Contemporary Art [ARTE-01/C], with specialized expertise in Russian art history, semiotics of culture, and avant-garde studies. She directs the 'La prospettiva rovesciata' and 'Obraz' series for Antiga Edizioni, and serves on editorial boards for academic journals including 'Venezia Arti.'

Research Interests: Exploring Russian art from its origins to contemporary practices, semiotics of visual arts (with emphasis on Yuri Lotman's work), and comparative art history. She pioneered the Art Night Venice initiative and investigates themes like hybridity in contemporary art and cultural heritage sustainability.

Teaching: Teaches courses on Russian art history across multiple programs, including the Master's in Economics and Management of Arts and Cultural Activities, and undergraduate programs in Languages and Cultural Studies. Recent courses include 'History of Russian Contemporary Art' and 'Artistic-Literary Culture.'

Projects & Funding: Led over 20 research projects funded by institutions like the EU (H2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions), the Russian Federation, and the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR). Notable projects include 'GYSIART: A cultural history of comparative art practices in Cold War Europe' and 'Meanings of Care (MeC).' She organized exhibitions like 'Avanguardia russa: esperienze di un mondo nuovo' and 'Dmitri Prigov.'
