Silke Merchel

Silke Merchel is a researcher in Isotope Physics at the Faculty of Physics, specializing in Accelerator Mass Spectrometry and Radioactive Isotopes. Her work spans Earth and planetary sciences, cosmogenic nuclides, and meteorite research.

Her research focuses include:

• Cosmogenic Nuclide Analysis for geochronology and paleoclimate studies
• Interstellar Radionuclides on Earth and the Moon
• Glacial Geomorphology in Patagonia (Pleistocene chronology)

In 2024, she received the Females in Mass Spectrometry Empowerment Award. Her recent publications (2025) explore Miocene anomalies in marine archives, Pleistocene glacial dynamics, and interstellar radionuclide interactions.
