Siim Veski is a Tenured Full Professor and Head of the Department of Postglacial Geology at Tallinn University of Technology's School of Science. Affiliated with TUT since 1989, he progressed from junior researcher to his current leadership role, specializing in Baltic region paleoenvironmental studies and Quaternary geology.
Education:
- Tartu University, Department of Geology (1982-1989), cum laude
- PhD in Quaternary Geology, Uppsala University (1998)
- Postdoctoral studies at TUT (1999-2000)
Research Focus: Veski's work centers on Holocene and Pleistocene stratigraphy, analyzing annually laminated sediments to reconstruct Baltic Sea development, paleoclimate, and human-environment interactions. His expertise in pollen analysis and geoevent dating (including meteorite impacts) informs critical studies of postglacial landscapes and vegetation dynamics across Northern Europe.

Academic Leadership: Veski supervises 4 active PhD candidates and has guided 6 doctoral/Master's students. He coordinates the European Astrobiology Campus (Erasmus+), serves on the Estonian Academy of Sciences Meteoritics Commission, and edits the ISI-ranked "Estonian Journal of Earth Sciences". His international collaborations include PAGES Varves Working Group and the European Pollen Database.
