معرفی
Siim Suutre is an Associate Professor of Anatomy and Histology at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine, where he has served in academic positions since 2013. Currently working at 0.60 FTE since January 2021, he previously held positions as Associate Professor (0.50 FTE) and Research Fellow in Histology at the same institution.
Dr. Suutre earned his Doctor's Degree from the University of Tartu in 2010 with a dissertation titled "The role of TGF-β isoforms and osteoprogenitor cells in the pathogenesis of heterotopic ossification. An experimental and clinical study of hip arthroplasty," supervised by Andres Arend, Gunnar Selstam, Alar Toom, and Mihkel Zilmer. His research spans molecular morphology, histology, and anatomy with a strong focus on musculoskeletal disorders.
His primary research interests include cartilage and bone biology, osteoarthritis pathogenesis, heterotopic ossification, and molecular markers of joint degeneration. His work integrates advanced histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, and molecular analysis to understand the mechanisms underlying joint pathology. Recent publications demonstrate a sophisticated approach to studying cartilage intermediate layer proteins (particularly CILP-2), discoidin domain receptors, and inflammatory processes in osteoarthritis.
Analysis of Dr. Suutre's 29 publications reveals a consistent research trajectory focused on molecular mechanisms of joint diseases. His work spans basic science (molecular pathways in bone and cartilage formation), translational research (applying molecular findings to clinical contexts), and clinical morphology (studying tissue changes in patient samples). The recurring themes include protein expression patterns in joint tissues, ultrastructural changes in degenerative conditions, and molecular markers of disease progression.
Dr. Suutre has been actively involved in multiple significant research projects funded by the Estonian Science Foundation and Ministry of Education and Research, including "Mechanisms of formation and degeneration of cartilage and bone in different pathologies" (2011-2016), "Bone reparation in bone defects" (2009-2012), and "Pathogenesis of heterotopic ossification" (2003-2006). He has been a member of the Estonian Morphology Society since 2010 and has contributed extensively to the Baltic Morphology conference series.
