Sihan Zhou

Sihan Zhou is an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), serving as Deputy Program Coordinator for the BA (English Studies)-BEd (English Language Education) Double Degree Program. She holds a DPhil in Education from the University of Oxford as a Swire Scholar. Her research focuses on the intersection of educational psychology and applied linguistics, with expertise in quantitative methods and mixed-methods approaches to studying language learning in EMI and technology-assisted environments.

Her work examines factors such as affect, motivation, and strategic behavior in contexts like English-medium instruction (EMI) and digital learning. She leads a three-year Hong Kong RGC-funded project exploring EMI students' lecture comprehension strategies, and has secured grants from Swire Charitable Trust, British Council, and UKRI for EMI and digital language learning research. She is a member of the EMI Oxford Research Group and co-edits the AILA Review special issue on qualitative research in language learning strategies.

Zhou has published extensively in journals such as System, Language Teaching, and Applied Linguistics Review. Her recent work addresses longitudinal studies of student adaptation to EMI contexts, motivational frameworks in multilingual education, and the role of technology in language learning strategies.

Her advising and grants portfolio includes leading projects on EMI policy implementation and digital language tools development. She collaborates internationally through the EMI Oxford Research Group, contributing to global discussions on EMI's impact on language education systems and pedagogical practices.
