Prof. Dr. Sigrid VANDEMAELE is a Senior Lecturer at Hasselt University's Faculty of Business Economics, Department of Accountancy, Finance and Governance. She leads the Accountancy and Finance Research Group and serves as Chairman of key academic committees, including the Examination Board for Master of Management and Postgraduate Business Administration. Her research focuses on Financial Economics and Business Economics, with an emphasis on family firms, succession financing, and international trade exposure.
Her research interests explore topics such as entrepreneurial finance decisions in family businesses, ownership succession strategies, and the impact of non-financial goals on corporate behavior. She has supervised multiple PhDs, including studies on asset pricing in family firms and behavioral drivers of entrepreneurial finance decisions.
Prof. VANDEMAELE has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles, analyzing themes such as systemic risk dynamics, dividend policies in private family firms, and exchange rate exposure. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implications for family business governance and international trade strategies.
