Sigrid Hartong is a Professor of Sociology at Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg, focusing on the transformation of governance in education and society. She leads the DFG-funded research focus on Digital Education Governance and co-leads the Erasmus+ ETH-TECH project on ethical technology use in education. Her work spans international comparisons of education systems, datafication studies, and critical analyses of EdTech.

Her research examines how digital technologies reshape education systems, particularly through data infrastructures, predictive governance, and global EdTech trends. Hartong's methodological innovations combine topological analysis with hybrid ethnography. She co-developed the EdTechReflektor tool for critical EdTech evaluation and promotes participatory design approaches.
