Signe Leth Gammelgaard is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Division of Art History and Visual Studies within the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences at Lund University's Faculty of Humanities. Her research spans multiple disciplines at the intersection of art history, cultural studies, and political theory.
Dr. Leth Gammelgaard's research interests focus on critical examinations of contemporary society through historical and theoretical lenses. Her work particularly explores themes of labour, democracy, epistemology, and social policy within the contexts of visual culture and artistic production. She approaches these topics through interdisciplinary frameworks that bridge art history with political economy and social theory.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the intersection of aesthetics and political economy, particularly examining how financial systems and welfare states are represented and critiqued in literary and visual works. This includes analyses of utopian literature like Huxley's Brave New World and contemporary artistic expressions of decadence in relation to finance.
Her notable scientific achievements include:
- Per Nyströms Prize for Historical Research (2021)
- Scholarship from Karin and Karl Ragnar Gierow's donation foundation (2023)
Dr. Leth Gammelgaard actively participates in academic discourse through the Aesthetic Studies Reading Group, which she joined in 2022 and continues to contribute to. She has presented her work at multiple Higher Seminars in Art History and Visual Studies at Lund University, and was recently invited to speak on "Postdoctoral Surviving Strategies" scheduled for May 2025.
She contributes to academic training as an instructor for the course FBMA05, Publishing Studies: Level 1 and 2, sharing her expertise in cultural production and critical theory with students.
