Prof. Siegfried Weichlein holds the position of Professeur·e ordinaire at the Department of Contemporary History, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Fribourg. His research focuses on federalism, political history, nationalism, and transnational historical networks.

Weichlein's scholarly work examines federalism's evolution across Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S., particularly in Political Order & Democracy and Historical Semantics. His projects include The Global Pontificate of Pius XII (2022-2026) and Hygiene Abroad and at Home (2015-2019), analyzing missionary knowledge transfer in colonial contexts.
Recent publications address Cold War cultural imaginaries, political violence in Weimar Germany, and federalism's ideological construction. His book Nation State, Conflict Resolution, and Culture War, 1850–1878 (2012) remains influential in debates on German state-building. Weichlein also contributes to public discourse through op-eds in Freiburger Nachrichten on contemporary political trends.
