Dr. Siavush Randjbar-Daemi is a Senior Lecturer in Modern Middle Eastern History at the University of St Andrews' School of History. His research focuses on the evolution of the Iranian state, particularly during periods of political pluralism such as the early 1950s and 1979-1981. He is the author of The Quest for Authority, the first monograph on the presidency in the Islamic Republic, and co-editor of Fada'i Guerrilla Praxis in Iran. His current projects include studying the 1977-1981 period through 'Other Revolutionaries' and collaborating on the Nashriyah Iranian press archive. He won the 2023 Elie and Sylvia Kedourie Prize for his article on the Tudeh Party and land reform.
Education: PhD in Intra-State Relations in Iran from the University of London (2012). External roles include Series Editor for Radical Histories of the Middle East and External Examiner for SOAS' M.A. Iranian Studies.
Research interests include the Tudeh Party, Iranian opposition movements, and the press. He supervises PhD students on topics like the Tudeh Party, Pahlavi-era car industry, and Iranian opposition in the Middle East.
