Sian Hindle is a Senior Lecturer in the History of Jewellery at Birmingham City University. Her research explores jewellery as an element of dress and its role in shaping individual and collective identities, drawing on interdisciplinary approaches including anthropology, social psychology, and material culture studies. She holds a PhD examining how jewellery’s wear and use contribute to embodied narratives of identity across the lifespan.
As part of the Dress in Context Research Cluster, she organizes the biannual Culture, Costume and Dress Conference and leads the MA Jewellery and Related Products course. In her role as Associate Director for Doctoral Researchers, she oversees doctoral student progression and supervisory support within the Institute.
Her creative research methods include engaging participants in reflective practices around adornment, blending academic inquiry with practical exploration. Her work intersects themes of identity, lifespan changes, and the materiality of self-expression.
