Si Long Chan is a Lecturer and PhD candidate at Newcastle University's School of Geography, Politics and Sociology. His research focuses on contested spaces of homelessness and houselessness in Newcastle upon Tyne, emphasizing creative arts in activism. He is affiliated with the Geographies of Social Change research cluster and co-founded the Creative Arts Research Network (CARN).
Academically, he teaches undergraduate courses including GEO1010: Interconnected World, GEO1096: Geographical Skills, and GEO2110: Social Geographies. His doctoral work critiques epistemic violence in homelessness research and collaborates with communities through theater, poetry, and digital platforms.
Chan’s publications and presentations address intersections of emotion, space, and activism. He actively engages with grassroots racial justice initiatives and East/Southeast Asian community organizing. His participatory methods include poetry workshops and collaborative film projects to amplify marginalized voices.
