Si Chen

Si Chen serves as an Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning within the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University, where she integrates computational methodologies with urban planning to advance sustainable decision-making frameworks.

Her academic foundation includes:

• Bachelor of Engineering in Urban and Rural Planning from Tongji University
• Master of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
• Master of Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
• Ph.D. in Urban Informatics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Her research pioneers computational systems that apply data analytics to urban planning through an ecological lens, emphasizing smart resilience and inclusive governance. This work bridges computer science with urban design to create sustainable land development frameworks and participatory planning tools.

Dr. Chen has established cross-disciplinary collaborations spanning environmental modeling, urban analytics, and sustainable infrastructure development, with notable leadership as Associate Director of the Landuse Evolution and Impact Assessment Model Lab during her doctoral studies.
