Shweta Bansal

Shweta Bansal, MBBS, MD, FASN is a Professor of Medicine and clinical leader at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio). She serves as Director of the Home Dialysis Program, CTSA-Hub Liaison Team Lead, and Associate Editor for multiple nephrology journals. Her expertise spans nephrology, cardiorenal connections, and hypertension management. Dr. Bansal completed her medical training at SMS Medical College (India) and nephrology fellowship at the University of Colorado, Denver.

Research & Education: Her research focuses on volume/sodium control in CKD and dialysis patients, inflammation-FGF23 interactions, and cardiorenal syndrome. She has secured grants from NHLBI, industry partners, and institutional programs. Dr. Bansal pioneered a home dialysis training program and established an early CKD prevention clinic. She revitalized the UT Health Nephrology Fellowship Program by redesigning curricula and balancing clinical/service education.

Leadership: As IRB Chair (8 years) and symposium organizer for the annual Cardiorenal Connections conference, she bridges clinical care, education, and research. Her editorial roles and policy advocacy through ISPD-NAC and ASN task forces amplify her national impact. She is celebrated for patient empowerment strategies and teaching excellence, earning the 2023 Presidential Clinical Excellence Award.
