Shumiao Ouyang is an Associate Professor of Finance (without tenure) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Tutorial Fellow in Management at Wadham College, Oxford. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University, an M.S. in Finance from Peking University, and a dual B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Economics from Tsinghua University.
His research focuses on FinTech, Household Finance, AI in finance, Data Privacy, and Digital Economy, with a particular emphasis on BigTech Finance. He collaborates extensively with leading BigTech firms like Ant Group and Alibaba to explore the economic implications of digitization. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical insights, examining how technological advancements reshape financial access, decision-making, and market dynamics.
Shumiao has received notable awards including the JFI/FIRS Best Doctoral Paper Award and AsianFA Best Doctoral Paper Award (both 2022), alongside the EEA/UniCredit Econ Job Market Best Paper Runner-Up and PIIRS Graduate Student Research Award (2022). His research informs policymakers and industry leaders on ethical AI deployment, financial inclusion, and venture capital performance.
He advises on research collaborations and mentorship through his website. His work involves experimental finance, real-world transaction data analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human-AI interactions in financial contexts. He is also involved in initiatives such as the Oxford Future of Finance and Technology, contributing to cutting-edge discussions on digital finance and its societal impacts.
