Shukuh Ghaznavi is a Persian/Farsi Instructor, Program Coordinator, and Minor Advisor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Since 2008 she has taught Persian language courses, designed curricula, and guided students completing the Persian minor.
Education and Background
- Born and raised in Iran.
- Graduated from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran.
- Early career focused on nationwide literacy initiatives in Iran.
- Taught high-school students in Sabzevar, northeastern Iran.
- Professional experience at NISCO in Iran before joining Pitt.
Research & Teaching Focus
Her work centers on Persian language instruction, second-language acquisition, and fostering intercultural competence. Drawing on her background in Iranian literacy education, she emphasizes communicative skills and cultural literacy so that students become knowledgeable, engaged global citizens.
Advising & Program Leadership
As Persian/Farsi Program Coordinator and Minor Advisor, she mentors undergraduate students through the Persian minor, oversees course sequencing, and integrates experiential learning opportunities that connect language study with contemporary Iranian culture.
