Shu-han Luo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on medieval English literature, particularly Old English poetry, with interests in poetics, literary form, and the intersection of aesthetics and instruction. He holds a Master’s from the University of Oxford and a PhD from Yale University.
His current book project explores formal strategies in Old English didactic poetry through comparative analysis with Tang Chinese verse and imperial commentary, redefining approaches to learning and aesthetic experience in early medieval England. Luo’s work bridges disciplinary boundaries, employing new comparative methodologies for close reading.
He has published in Anglo-Saxon England and contributed to volumes on Anglo-Saxon literary culture. His teaching includes courses on medieval literature, and he maintains active office hours via Calendly.
