Shraddhanand Shukla is an Associate Researcher at the Department of Geography, UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), specializing in large-scale hydrology, drought monitoring, and seasonal climate forecasting. He joined the Climate Hazards Center (CHC) in 2014 after serving as a UCAR PACE postdoctoral fellow (2012–2014). He holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, and degrees from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur.
His research focuses on advancing drought early warning systems using Earth observations, remote sensing, and hydrological models. He collaborates with NASA and USAID’s SERVIR program, leading the 'Weather and Climate' thematic area. He edits journals like Hydrology and Earth System Sciences and Journal of Hydrometeorology.
Shukla’s work emphasizes improving food insecurity early warning in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia through integrated monitoring systems. His projects include developing crop yield forecasting tools, enhancing soil moisture monitoring, and evaluating climate model forecasts for agricultural applications.
