Shonali Krishnaswamy is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Data Science & AI at Monash University's Faculty of Information Technology. She holds a PhD from Monash University (2003), a Master of Computing (Research) and Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) also from Monash (2005), and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (2006). Her research focuses on context-aware systems, data stream processing, smart energy management, and medical emergency decision support.
Key projects include the Wattzup smart energy management system (2010–2014) and context-aware medical emergency systems for mass gatherings (2009–2013). She has led or co-investigated 8 projects funded by organizations like the Australian Research Council, IBM, and Intel. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in education and innovation.
Research outputs span ontology reasoning, activity recognition, transportation safety, and distributed computing. Notable contributions include novel methods for real-time data stream analysis and improving ontology efficiency. She has over 160 publications and maintains active collaborations across academia and industry.
