Shogo TAKEGAWA is a Professor of Sociology at The University of Tokyo, affiliated with the Faculty of Literature. His research focuses on social policies, comparative welfare states, and care/health services. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from The University of Tokyo (1984) after completing his M.A. (1981) and B.A. (1979) there. Before his current role, he held positions at Chuo University, including Associate Professor (1989–1993). He conducted visiting research at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in 2018 and organized a lecture series on Japanese social policies during his stay.
Research Interests:
- Comparative analysis of welfare state policies
- Public attitudes toward social security systems
- Regional social planning in postwar Japan
- Privatization trends in social policy
His publications span sociological studies of urbanization, elderly care needs, and regional development. He contributes to interdisciplinary discussions on social policy through methodological innovations like the Delphi technique. His work often bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical case studies, particularly in Japan and the UK.
