Shivam Tripathi

Shivam Tripathi is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, specializing in Hydraulics and Water Resources. His academic journey includes a PhD from Purdue University (2009), an M.E. from Indian Institute of Science (2004), and a B.E. from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University (2002).

Dr. Tripathi's research focuses on Statistical Hydrology, Sediment Transport, and Eco-Hydrology. His work bridges theoretical hydrology with practical water resources management, particularly in the areas of drought assessment, watershed reliability analysis, and sediment transport modeling. His research methodology often involves advanced statistical techniques to address uncertainty in hydrological systems.

Among his notable achievements is the Alfred Noble Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers (2013). He also received the Civil Engineering Best Dissertation Award from Purdue University (2009) along with multiple fellowships including the Jacques W. Delleur Award (2005, 2009) and the Gerritt J. Toebes Memorial Fellowship (2009).

Dr. Tripathi actively mentors graduate students, with his research group including Shikha Chourasiya, Manoj Kumar Diwakar, Pankaj Kumar Rai, Hemanta Medhi, and Ribhu Shankar Chaubey. His teaching portfolio includes courses on Eco-Hydrology and Statistical Hydrology.

His laboratory work is centered in Room 6 of the Hydraulics Lab at IIT Kanpur, where his team conducts research on water resources systems, sediment transport phenomena, and eco-hydrological processes.
