Shirley Porterfield is a Professor in the Department of Public Policy Administration and Department of Social Work at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). Her research intersects health economics, disability studies, and gerontology, focusing on caregiving dynamics, retirement savings, and policy impacts on vulnerable populations. She has extensively studied transitions to adulthood for individuals with disabilities, financial implications of caregiving, and rural development challenges.
