Shireesh Bhalerao is the Associate Director of Curriculum Management and Visiting Associate Professor in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). His expertise includes evidence-based practice, spinal/extraspinal diagnosis, and musculoskeletal management. Bhalerao co-founded the Equilibrium interdisciplinary clinic in Portland and collaborates with rheumatologists on spondyloarthritis research. He is co-authoring a 4th edition textbook on chiropractic techniques.
His research focuses on inflammatory back pain and post-surgical spine outcomes, with publications in peer-reviewed journals like Arthritis and Rheumatology and Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. Bhalerao advocates for interprofessional healthcare integration and pioneered the Pitt DC program’s clinical curriculum. His private practice emphasizes holistic patient care and athlete rehabilitation.
He joined the Pitt program in 2018 under Founding Director Michael Schneider, aiming to modernize chiropractic education through research and interprofessional training. Bhalerao balances academic leadership with family life, enjoying golf, hockey (a Sidney Crosby fan), and Pacific Northwest outdoor activities.
