Shing I. Chang is a Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) at Kansas State University (K-State). He has held this position since 1991, initially as an Assistant Professor. His research focuses on quality engineering, statistical process monitoring, data analytics for manufacturing and healthcare, and entropy-based monitoring for elderly fall prevention. He has been involved in ABET accreditation and served on K-State's Faculty Senate (2002–2005).

He has held editorial roles at journals like Journal of Quality and International Journal of Advanced Quality Management. Notable contributions include establishing K-State’s data analytics graduate certificate (2016) and improving quality assurance systems at Payless Shoe Source (2000).
