Shilpa Balan

Dr. Shilpa Balan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems at California State University, Los Angeles, within the College of Business and Economics. She earned her Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Mississippi. Her research focuses on Business Analytics, Data Science, AI, Healthcare Informatics, and integrating IT into pedagogical practices.

Dr. Balan has received multiple awards, including the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Research and Mentorship Award (2019), Graduate Faculty Mentorship Award (2018), and the 'Most Promising Research' Award (2016). She holds grants from Tableau, Qlik, IBM-Watson Analytics, and Microsoft Azure, and leads research in Big Data Analytics for Healthcare. She also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Healthcare.

Her teaching spans courses in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Healthcare Informatics, including courses she developed such as CIS 4210/5210 (Healthcare Data Analytics) and CIS 5250 (Visual Analytics).
