Dr. Shikha Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Forensic Science Department at the University of New Haven's Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. She joined the university in 2024 following extensive postdoctoral research in toxicology and public health. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Toxicology from Jamia Hamdard (New Delhi, 2018), an M.S. in Forensic Science, and a B.S. in Zoology, Chemistry, and Forensic Science from Dr. H.S. Gour University.
Dr. Sharma's research focuses on molecular toxicology mechanisms, including:
- Nuclear receptor pathways of endocrine disruptors like Bisphenol A (BPA)
- Inhalation toxicology of cigarettes and e-cigarettes
- Molecular mechanisms of lung injury
- Leaching effects of phthalates from vaping devices
With over four years of postdoctoral experience, Dr. Sharma previously worked at the University of Rochester (2019-2021) studying lung toxicities and at Indiana University's School of Public Health (2021-2024) investigating e-cigarette contaminants. She aims to involve both graduate and undergraduate students in her forensic toxicology research at the University of New Haven.
