Shikha Nangia is a Professor and Department Chair in the Biomedical and Chemical Engineering Department at Syracuse University. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota (2006) and prior degrees from Indian academic institutions. Her research focuses on computational modeling of biological interfaces, particularly the blood-brain barrier, nanomedicine, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Supported by an NSF-CAREER award, her work aims to develop novel drug delivery systems for neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
Educations:
- Ph.D. Chemistry, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (2006)
- M.Sc. Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2000)
- B.Sc. Chemistry, University of Delhi (1998)
Research Interests: Her laboratory investigates blood-brain barrier dynamics, nanomaterials for drug delivery, and computational modeling of bacterial membranes. Current projects include designing smart nanocarriers to combat cancer and Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s diseases, as well as studying antibiotic resistance through molecular simulations.
Grants & Awards: Recipient of NSF CAREER Award (2015), ACS OpenEye Award (2016), and multiple teaching recognitions including Meredith Teaching Award (2017). Her work is supported through collaborative grants in biomedical engineering.
Labs & Teams: Affiliated with the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute, leading a multidisciplinary group focused on computational biophysics and nanomedicine. The group emphasizes diversity and inclusivity in scientific problem-solving.
