Shihan Xie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on behavioral macroeconomics, monetary policy, and household expectations, with particular attention to issues like fiscal policy effects, housing markets, and central bank communication strategies.
He holds a PhD in Economics from UC San Diego. His work bridges theoretical models with empirical analysis, investigating how households form expectations under information frictions and how these expectations interact with macroeconomic policies.
Recent research explores topics such as the role of homeownership in monetary policy transmission, the political perception of central banks, and the impact of extreme weather on low-income households' financial stability. His studies often emphasize behavioral aspects of decision-making, such as overconfidence and attention allocation.
Xie’s publications span top journals like the Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, with ongoing projects addressing fiscal uncertainty, macroprudential policy, and household-level responses to economic shocks. His work contributes to understanding how policy interventions can better align with real-world behavioral realities.
