Dr. Shih Fang-Long is a Research Fellow and Co-Director of the Taiwan Research Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her work focuses on the anthropology of religion, gender studies, and Taiwan's sociopolitical dynamics. She examines issues such as religion’s role in modernity, social memory, justice, and environmental discourse. Shih’s research bridges academic and practical contexts, including contributions to global civil society and interdisciplinary studies of Taiwan. She teaches an MSc course on 'Taiwan in Comparative Perspective' and co-edits the eJournal Taiwan in Comparative Perspective.
Her research emphasizes Taiwan’s connections with global and regional networks, particularly through comparative studies with Ireland. Recent work addresses historical memory, such as the White Terror incidents, and the sociocultural implications of religious practices like maiden death rituals. Shih’s publications span journals, edited volumes, and monographs, reflecting her expertise in Taiwan’s religious, cultural, and political landscapes.
