Dr. Shifra Kisch is an Assistant Professor at University College Utrecht, affiliated with Utrecht University. Her academic work spans Anthropology, Gender & Sexuality, and Disability Studies, with a focus on intersectional approaches to identity and social inequality.
- Areas of expertise include: Ethnographic Fieldwork, Language and Identity, Middle East Studies, and Visual Communication.
- Current courses: Gender & Sexuality, Medical Anthropology, Deaf Studies, and Introduction to Anthropology.
Her research integrates qualitative methods and interdisciplinary frameworks, examining sociolinguistic dynamics, gendered racialization, and disability in Bedouin communities. She has published extensively on topics like sign language in isolated populations, intersections of Shari’a law and transnational marriage, and the politics of language.
Dr. Kisch also contributes to Amsterdam Research Center for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS) and the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR). She offers thesis supervision for BA & MA Anthropology students and maintains structured office hours for student engagement.
