Sherry Bass

Dr. Sherry Bass is a Teaching Professor at the State University of New York College of Optometry, where she has served for 37 years. She supervises the Residency in Ocular Disease program and has chaired numerous accreditation visits for residency programs across the U.S. as a consultant for the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE). She also consults for the New York State Office of Professional Discipline and has held leadership roles in optometric organizations, including former Chair of the New York State Board for Optometry. Additionally, she maintains a part-time private practice in Woodmere, New York since 1981.

Dr. Bass holds a Doctor of Optometry (OD) from SUNY College of Optometry (1980), an MS in Science Education from Queens College (1973), and a BS in Biology from SUNY Albany (1972). She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry (2014) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD).

Her research focuses on genetics of hereditary retinal disorders, imaging technology, and retinal pathophysiology. She has authored over 150 publications and presented extensively on retinal diseases, OCT applications, and perimetry. Her clinical interests include retinal imaging and retinal disease management, with expertise in conditions like retinoschisis, glaucoma, and optic neuropathies.

Dr. Bass has advised and trained numerous residents through her residency supervision role since 1998. She actively contributes to optometric accreditation and professional standards.
