Dr. Shenna M. Shearin serves as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at Bennett College. She is affiliated with the Division of Arts and Sciences and holds a Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Her work focuses on STEM education innovation, particularly retention strategies for underrepresented minority female STEM students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Research Interests:
Dr. Shearin investigates the efficacy of STEM interventions such as tutoring, faculty mentoring, and supplemental instruction. Her current project as a 2021 Faculty Research Fellow (HBCU STEM US Research Center) explores the relationship between achievement motivation and academic performance in STEM courses. This mixed-methods study aims to inform institutional strategies for improving student success.
Professional Contributions:
Her 2017 publication in Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling demonstrated computational analysis of protein mutations' binding affinities. She actively participates in Bennett College's retention initiatives and collaborates with institutions like Morehouse College and Spelman College through the HBCU STEM Analytic Hub.
