Dr. Shenkai Gu is a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey, currently serving as a KTP Associate in the Secure Systems group. He was born in Jiangsu Province, China in 1987, and earned his BSc in Computer & Software Engineering (First Class Honours) from Oxford Brookes University (2010), followed by an MSc in Security Technology and Applications at the University of Surrey (2011). His doctoral research on Brain-Machine Interface was completed under the supervision of Prof Yaochu Jin and Dr Saeid Sanei in January 2017.

Dr. Gu's research focuses on Brain-Machine Interfaces, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence, with a specific emphasis on EEG-based motor imagery detection. His work includes collaborations with Clearswift Ltd on the "H-DLP" project involving human-assisted machine learning for data loss prevention systems.
The available publications demonstrate expertise in computational intelligence approaches to biomedical signal processing. Notably, his 2012 UKCI workshop paper explores heterogeneous classifier ensembles for EEG pattern recognition, aligning with his broader interests in neurocomputing and adaptive systems.
