Shengqian Ma is a Full Professor and Robert A. Welch Chair in Chemistry at the University of North Texas (UNT). Previously, he held positions at the University of South Florida (USF), where he advanced from Assistant Professor (2010) to Associate Professor with early tenure (2015) and Full Professor (2018). His expertise lies in the design and functionalization of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for water purification, including oil spill cleanup, heavy metal removal, and nuclear waste treatment.
Education: B.S. from Jilin University (China, 2003); Ph.D. from Miami University (Ohio, 2008). Postdoctoral research included a Director’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at Argonne National Laboratory (2008–2010).
Research focuses on leveraging COFs' robust structures and tunable properties for environmental applications. Key contributions include integrating superwettability in COFs for functional coatings and developing photocatalytic methods for uranium extraction. His work bridges materials science, environmental chemistry, and nanotechnology to address global challenges in water sustainability.
