Sheng Tong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kentucky (2019-present), part of the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering. His research focuses on nanomedicine, cancer immunotherapy, genome editing, and drug delivery, with emphasis on engineered materials for in vivo applications. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University (2003), an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Peking University (1998), and a B.S. in Modern Mechanics from the University of Science and Technology of China (1995).
Dr. Tong’s lab, the Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Immunoengineering, pioneers interdisciplinary research in nanobiotechnology and immunoengineering. Recent breakthroughs include winning the NIH TARGETED Challenge Phase I for developing targeted genome editor delivery systems. His work addresses challenges in CRISPR delivery, magnetic nanoparticle applications, and therapeutic exosome engineering.
