Shendra Passic is a Researcher and MS Research Instructor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Drexel University College of Medicine. She holds leadership roles as Director of the Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Facility, Manager of the Center for Molecular Virology and Neuroimmunology, and Director of the Human Cell Molecular Processing Center within the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease.
She completed her MS in 1997 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on HIV-1 genetic variation, drug development, and microbicides, with emphasis on viral pathogenesis and cytokine profiling in infected patients. She oversees longitudinal cohort studies analyzing HIV genetic evolution and patient outcomes.
Her work spans 15+ peer-reviewed publications (2002–2017) exploring HIV-1 tropism, neurocognitive impacts, coinfection effects, and antiviral mechanisms. She collaborates on projects involving cytokine analysis, drug development, and molecular virology. She manages key research facilities supporting HIV/AIDS research infrastructure.
Key contributions include defining genetic signatures linked to disease progression, identifying neurocognitive correlates of Vpr protein variants, and investigating coinfection dynamics with hepatitis C. Her research bridges basic science and clinical applications in infectious disease.
