Shelley Hepworth

Shelley Hepworth is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, Faculty of Science. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on plant architecture and molecular mechanisms governing plant development, with applications in crop improvement. She leads the Hepworth Lab, located in the Nesbitt Building, collaborating with institutions globally, including the National Research Council Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and industry partners like Cannabis Orchards.

Her work centers on shoot apical meristem regulation, abscission, and seed dispersal in crops. Key areas include understanding how genes like BLADE-ON-PETIOLE influence plant structure and applying findings to enhance agricultural traits. She also serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Botany, contributing to scientific communication.

Recent publications highlight advancements in plant stress tolerance, hormone signaling, and genomic adaptations.
