Dr. Shelley Duncan is a Senior Research Fellow and Associate Head of the Department of Sport and Health at Solent University. She holds expertise in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, specializing in electroencephalography (EEG) to study brain-behavior relationships. Her research focuses on aging, neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease), and the impact of exercise on cognitive/physical function. She leads the Mind-Body Connections Research Group, combining expertise in neuroscience, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.
- Education:
- PhD in Cognitive/Behavioral Neuroscience (Victoria University, Australia)
- MSc (First Class) in Exercise Science (University of Auckland, NZ)
- Bachelor of Physical Education and Health (University of Auckland)
Research Interests: Development of multimodal methodologies (EEG, motion capture) to assess cognitive-physical function in complex scenarios; neurophysiological underpinnings of aging and neurological diseases; exercise interventions targeting brain health. She emphasizes real-world applicability, such as using mobile brain imaging for clinical assessments.
Notable Achievements: Top 10 in Brain Products 2020 Mobile Brain Imaging Awards for dual-task paradigm validation. Active in grant-funded projects like the NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (2024-2028) and the SEAPORT pilot study (2022-2023).
Professional Activities: Member of Parkinson’s UK, invited speaker at international conferences (e.g., 4th International MoBI Conference), and collaborator with organizations like Brain Products. Engaged in teaching and nursing modules on long-term conditions.
