Sheldon Masters is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from The College of Wooster (2009), an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech (2011), and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech (2015). His research focuses on drinking water treatment, distribution system water quality, and water pipeline corrosion. He teaches CVEN 3414 Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering and CVEN 5524 Drinking Water Treatment.
Key research interests include regulatory compliance in water systems, lead and copper contamination mitigation, and infrastructure design for public health protection. His work bridges engineering practices with policy analysis, emphasizing real-world applications in utility management and building water systems.
Notable honors include the Inaugural Ut Prosim Scholar Award (2016), AEESP Presentation Award (2015), and Virginia Tech Graduate Student of the Year (2015). His recent publications analyze lead sampling protocols, plumbing design impacts on water quality, and regulatory trigger levels for contaminants.
Masters collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects involving graduate and undergraduate students. His lab focuses on practical solutions for improving water quality and infrastructure resilience.
