Shelby Roberts

Shelby Roberts is a Professor of Teaching in the Department of Art at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, University of California, Irvine. He has been teaching there since 1997. His work focuses on photographing human-built environments, including ancient neolithic sites, industrial-age structures, and border fences. Roberts holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (NYC, 1987) and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts (1990).

His research explores fragmented environments through photography, with exhibitions at institutions like the Torrance Museum of Art, Armory Center for the Arts, and Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art. His works have been featured in commercial galleries such as Sam Lee Gallery and Monte Vista Projects, and published in Nest magazine. He maintains an active artistic practice with series like Luberon Walls and Monuments, reflecting on cultural and urban landscapes.
