Shayon Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Limerick and a researcher at the Bernal Institute. His work focuses on supramolecular chemistry, protein aggregation, neurodegenerative disorders, and computational modeling of biomolecular systems. He leads projects funded by the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), European Framework, and Enterprise Ireland, collaborating with industry partners in pharmaceutical research.
His research integrates theoretical physics, molecular dynamics simulations, and density functional theory to design therapeutic peptides and biomaterials. He explores mechanisms of protein assembly in diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, with a particular interest in α-synuclein and amyloid proteins.
Shayon's contributions include advancing drug design through computational modeling, developing antimicrobial nanoparticle formulations, and studying lithium metal battery materials. He also runs a YouTube channel offering molecular modeling tutorials for early-career researchers.
- Awards: Best Image Award (2019), NanoNet Ireland Poster Award (2015), Travel Grants (2017).
- Collaborations: SSPC (SFI National Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals), European Framework initiatives.
- Teaching: Interdisciplinary physical sciences at the chemistry-biology-physics interface.
His research bridges fundamental science and applied technologies, addressing challenges in pharmaceuticals, energy storage, and biomedicine.
