Shawna Dolansky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at Carleton University, affiliated with the College of the Humanities. Her expertise lies in Biblical Studies, with a focus on the history and religions of ancient Israel and the Near East. She holds a B.A. (Honours) in History from Queen’s University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Jewish Studies and the history of biblical Israel from UC San Diego. Her research integrates literary criticism, archaeology, anthropology, and classics to contextualize biblical texts and their cultural impacts. Dolansky leads the SSHRC-supported project 'Women of the Ancient World' and contributes to public scholarship through articles on platforms like Bible Odyssey and TheTorah.com. She serves on the editorial board of Near Eastern Archaeology.
Her research interests include gendered historiography, biblical interpretation history, and the Bible’s role in Western culture. Key projects include analyzing Judean pillar figurines and exploring the intersection of feminism with biblical scholarship.
