Shawn Liu is an Associate Professor (Retired) at Mount Royal University and an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Calgary. He joined Mount Royal University in 1995 and has since contributed extensively to teaching and research in mathematics and statistics. His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Calgary, an MSc from Lakehead University, and a BSc from East China Normal University.
Research interests focus on robust statistics and its applications in applied sciences. He has developed specialized courses such as 'Statistics for Biological Sciences' and 'Statistics with Application in Geology.' Currently, he coordinates the 'Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest' and oversees statistics courses in his department. Shawn has held NSERC grants and scholarships, including an individual research grant (1997-2001) and doctoral program support. He actively serves on institutional, faculty, and departmental committees.
Teaching spans a wide range of courses, including Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and advanced statistical theory. His work emphasizes bridging theoretical statistics with practical applications in life sciences and geology.
