Shauna Satrom Pickens is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the Texas Tech University School of Music, joining in Fall 2023. Her teaching includes brass methods, music technology, and supervision of student teachers. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor, Coordinator of Music Education, and Director of the Master of Music in Education program at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.

Her research focuses on music education in low-socioeconomic urban and rural communities, instrument preferences of children, and music teacher preparation. She has presented at conferences including the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Symposium for Music Teacher Education, and Texas Music Educators Association. Dr. Pickens is active in professional organizations such as NAfME, Society for Music Teacher Education, and Texas Music Educators Association, serving as Collegiate Chair for NAfME-Texas.
