Dr Shaun S. Yates is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Course Leader for the Criminology and Law BA and Criminology and International Security BA programs at London Metropolitan University's School of Social Sciences and Professions. He holds a PhD from Anglia Ruskin University (2022) and has extensive professional experience within the UK criminal justice system, including roles at Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service and the National Probation Service. His research focuses on lower criminal court justice, socio-legal dynamics, and efficiency reforms in judicial processes.
Teaching responsibilities include criminological theory, research methods, police studies, and courtroom justice. He integrates practical insights from his prior work into his pedagogy and oversees undergraduate dissertation projects. Collaborative research projects involve partnerships with Greater Manchester Police, the Design Against Crime Solution Centre (DACSC), and Essex Police, emphasizing applied criminology and justice system improvement.
His scholarly contributions address systemic challenges in court efficiency, defendant rights, and procedural fairness, with a focus on England and Wales' legal frameworks. Yates critiques over-efficiency in judicial systems and advocates for balanced reforms that uphold equity and due process.
