Shaun Hargreaves Heap is a Professor of Political Economy at King's College London, based in the Department of Political Economy within the School of Politics & Economics. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and has held visiting positions at Concordia University and the University of Sydney. His research focuses on experimental economics, particularly the influence of group membership and social norms on decision-making, and the application of Mill's Harm Principle to welfare economics. He teaches Macroeconomics, Behavioral Economics, and Political Economy.
Research interests include behavioral public policy, the political economy of peace and conflict, and interdisciplinary work bridging economics and philosophy. He is affiliated with the Quantitative Political Economy Research Group, the Public Policy and Regulation Research Group, and the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) research group. Recent work addresses pandemic policy responses, health-wealth trade-offs, and democratic governance mechanisms.
Teaching and supervision include mentoring PhD students using experimental methods or exploring economics-philosophy intersections. His office hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays at Bush House NE, room 7.18.
