Sharon Young, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., is a Professor of Social Work at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU), affiliated with the Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences. She holds a B.S. in Human Development and Family Relations (University of Connecticut), M.S.W. (University of Connecticut), and Ph.D. in Social Work (Fordham University). Her research focuses on Post-9/11 veterans, including their transition to college, mental health challenges (e.g., PTSD), and the therapeutic use of humor. She has developed nationally recognized programs like a prevention theater initiative and served as an Embedded Clinician with the Connecticut National Guard. Dr. Young advises the Student Veterans Organization and Social Work Club at WCSU, emphasizing community partnerships and best practices in veteran support.
Her work includes peer-reviewed presentations on veteran adjustment, military social work education, and interventions for chronic absenteeism.
